Whelp, this pre-order campaign is three weeks old and nobody has told me to "quit it!" yet.... so full steam ahead! Thanks to all of you who read these updates for taking that extra little step in supporting Nix Projects!
So far 25 people have placed pre-orders for 41 books. Combined with the 5 pre-ordered Jenny Mae/Jerry Wick split singles and a couple of Special Offer/Add On type sales, this effort is at $933.50 in sales. That's around half of what I need to break even on a print run.
Of course, any help you can give me to reach that next objective would be super welcome. You may Pre-Order on the main nix2024.com page.
Notes on this not being a Kickstarter:Â
First off, good thing this ain't no crowd-funder, if it were (say) a 30 day Kickstarter with a $2,000 goal, I'd be sweating bullets right now. I'd be freakin' out looking at the chart they provide to users that looks like the one above. The posts on social media would be shooting for my keyboard rapid fire, loaded with passive aggressive guilt trip laden language. I'd be scrambling to see if I could find somebody to shill pledge enough to put me over... A little bit of fraud that happens all the time on Kickstarter. Basically I'd be knee deep in hustle-culture BS. Instead I'm calmly calculating how much money I need to sock away from each paycheck to be comfortable fulfilling my obligation to the pre-orders. That's what small press publishing should be!
Who's Checking Out The Pre-Order Sale?
No Surprise, it's by far mostly people from Ohio. If you dig down on that, its also by far mostly people from Columbus. I'm a local phenom, I guess! Honestly, I'm not sure why I'm sharing this graphic other than that I'm amazed that anyone outside of Columbus is interested enough to look! I'm glad they are, because it looks like I'll need to figure out how to reach that next-secondary group of people who might be interested... Which means (groan) a press release or something is in order.
No New Special Offer This Week: I just haven't had the time to pick a new "thing." I have a bunch of records and art to throw out there, but given that the first two haven't sold, its a little hard to put the energy into it. I may go back to basics and sell a bunch of stuff on Ebay. Those of you who have been with me from the beginning know that's how I started Nix, by selling Evil Empire Records backstock. It wouldn't be exactly the same, that was back in the days when you could list 5,000 auctions in a week and expect multiple bids on cool stuff. I don't have 5,000 items any more, and even if I did, doubt they would sell at the same pace as in 2010.
While I figger I'll leave the special offers page up for at least a while, and change it up so you can buy the past week's special offers as well. Maybe the stuff will still find a nice home!
